"My work of research-action questions the allegoric, geographical and relational dimension of the Mediterranean aquatic surface. This physical and mental space is for me a habitus, a mental disposition, a place to live in and a necessary space for a process of creation which ponders on the relationship between gaze and gesture. Thus the image is text and pre-text, pathway and texture of created situations. "
NOVELLA OLIANA (Trani, 1978)
She lives and works between Rome and Marseille.
She is a visual artist and researcher. Her artistic research, both theoretical and practical, focuses on the plasticity of gesture and she considers the image as the result of a performative act. Currently, she is working on the representation of the Mediterranean space and water surfaces.
Among her latest publications: Chambres, universes: fragments d’un espace inventé, in Espaces d’interférence narrative. Art et récit au XXI siècle, (ed. Jean Arnaud), PU MIDI, Toulouse, 2018.
In February 2020 a selection of her research was exhibited as part of a double-solo show with Mario Cresci (Fra noi e le cose, curated by Gigliola Foschi, Red Lab Gallery, Milan).
