  • ARCOSCENICO | numerocromatico

From October 6th to November 5th, 2020 Via degli Ausoni 1, Roma 00185 Opening: October 6th, 2020 - 6 pm Press Preview: October 5th, 2020 - 11:30 am Project supported by the Exhibit Program | Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism SUPPORTED BY Arcoscenico is the final exhibition of the first phase of Messinscèna , a two-year mapping project of the Roman art scene, with the aim of analyzing artistic research in the capital. The event also acts as a sounding board of the Roman art scene in the national context, as well as a moment of theoretical confrontation between the artists. Messinscèna is a one-shot exhibition format. Each appointment was dedicated to a different artist, who exhibited his own work and a written theoretical statement for 5 hours. The artists were invited to install their projects in a space that is always the same for everyone and to identify a particular form of relationship with the user. During the staging, the public was asked to respect the rules of use decided by the artist and not to produce photographic material. During the project, only the video interviews with the artists and the public were disseminated, the works were seen / experienced only by those present. In two years, 10 exhibitions, 10 interviews with artists and more than 150 interviews with the public were produced. Arcoscenico is therefore an opportunity to discover the project in its entirety, see all the works presented during Messinscèna and discover the theoretical motivations of the artists involved. The artists involved: Alessandro Giannì (1989), Leonardo Petrucci (1986), Federika Fumarola (1981), Jacopo Tomassini (1979), Silvio Saccà (1989), Marta Mancini (1981), Michele Formica (1998), Gianni Politi (1986), Davide D'Elia (1973), Novella Oliana (1978). The challenge I undertake is that of linking these themes with more contemporary and scientific fields, such as Biology, Quantum Physics and Astronomy, thus allowing a more truthful aspect to the overall vision.” Messinscèna | Leonardo Petrucci Play Video Facebook Twitter Pinterest Tumblr Copy Link Link Copied LEONARDO PETRUCCI (Grosseto, 1986) He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma presenting a thesis on the relationship between art and alchemy, a research field which is still influencing his practice. • Superstimolo

Superstimolo MAXXI - Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo Foyer Carlo Scarpa Via Guido Reni, 4a, 00196 Roma 16th December 2021 - 28th August 2022 Book your visit Mini guide Press Kit Numero Cromatico introduces Superstimolo at MAXXI: a project room conceived for The Independent aimed at showing the public not only works of art but also a particular approach to artistic research. For the whole duration of the project the collective conducts, together with Brainsigns, an experiment on neuroaesthetics. Three different scenarios alternate in the project room, each of them presenting different elements and devices, both natural and artificial, designed and arranged to stimulate the user’s synaesthetic experience. The title Superstimolo is born out of the eponymous concept theorized by the ethologist and Nobel Prize winner Nikolaas Tinbergen in 1948. Indeed, Tinbergen’s “supernormal stimulus” is an artificial stimulus, quantitatively or qualitatively strengthened with respect to its natural state, causing more intense instinctive reactions. Starting from this premise, the project seeks to corroborate the hypothesis that art itself can be defined as something that activates the visitor in ways that are more complex and diversified with respect to the normal. The environments presented are linked to the most recent research initiated by Numero Cromatico on the mechanisms of perception and on how the aesthetic experience is made up of multiple components and determined by physiological, cultural, and environmental factors. Each project’s phase is distinguished by particular sounds, smells, materials, shapes, and colors, which are offered in the form of various devices. The objective is to create an immersive and introspective space, an environment built to trigger an intense reaction in the user and to outline a new mode of coexistence between humans and artificial intelligences and between elements that are apparently the opposite of each other, seeking to unravel the idea of distance and diversity.

Un flusso di onde brillanti A project by Numero Cromatico for Chiantissimo 2022 San Casciano in Val di Pesa, Firenze Curated by Davide Sarchioni From June 3rd to October 30th, 2022 Comunicato Stampa Un flusso di onde brillanti is an installation piece by Numero Cromatico conceived for the historical centre of San Casciano in Val di Pesa (FI), with the aim of interacting directly with the everyday life of its inhabitants. The installation consists of twenty flags and a banner, the former placed in the four main streets of the town, the latter placed on the clock tower. The flags contain verses that are part of the same poetic text. The artwork can be experienced in many different ways, depending on the path one decides to take. The text is written by S.O.N.H., an artificial intelligence instructed by the collective to write texts about the future of humanity. The colours of the flags have been chosen to determine a neutral condition of vision, inviting the audience to focus on the construction of the poetic text and to explore the places of San Casciano in new and unusual ways. Photographs by Margherita Nuti.

  • If I Should Die | numerocromatico

If I Should Die Solo show by Manuel Focareta December 7 - 9, 2020 Via degli Ausoni 1, 00185, Roma Press Release This exhibition is part of the project GRAN FINALE curated by Numero Cromatico As part of the series of exhibitions GRAN FINALE , Manuel Focareta presents the first part of his project If I Should Die , a series of 10 artworks on paper. The project forms an anthology of poems on the topic of death, generated by Artificial Intelligence. “If I Should Die” is both the title of the exhibition and the anthology itself - it is the verbal stimulus used by the artist to create the fifty texts that constitute the whole collection. The technology that was used to create these poems was able to foresee the subsequent verse on the basis of an initial input. The project is part of a research that has been focuses for years on various themes: the artist’s expressive abstinence; the study of a text’ visual and spatial components; the creation of poems through the use of procedures, methods and contexts that are regarded as unusual in literary tradition. The exhibited artworks constitute the first chapter of a visual poetic anthology, which demolishes the traditionalist idea of the enlightened poet. These in fact were not created using the author’s personal contents but rather they were built and designed to produce an unusual stimulus in the viewers on the theme of death. It is not a chance that the artist used utterly bright colours, in strong contrast with the poem’s written content, with the aim of creating in the viewers a sense of alienation. If I Should Die sets the basis for further questions within Numero Cromatico: will we still need humans to write texts that are capable of making the reader feel emotional? How much do the visual and spatial components influence the fruition of a text? Can poetry be a tool for creating new and original “images”? Focareta’s research opens to a field of inquiry in which the poem is treated like an element, a tool, a multicomponent stimulus and not as a mere container of the author’s emotional content. Messinscèna Davide D'Elia 7 May 2020 From 7 pm to 12 am Via degli Ausoni 1, 00185, Roma "My intention is that of questioning the contamination between languages, the interaction between the passing of time and the action of atmospheric agents on artefacts. In my artworks, the materials are destructured and reconstructed in order to become a vehicle of a universal thought. Thus, they go from matter to abstraction, from the consciousness of memory to its transmission." Davide D'ELia (Cava de' Tirreni, 1973) He lives and works in Rome. Initially fond of painting in the Art Informel tradition, from the second half of the 2000s D’Elia has experimented with the interaction between atmospheric agents and artifacts as a case study of natural phenomena, examining the concepts of memory, time and the flow of time in space. Sapere Diffuso Saperediffuso (2017) is a tool for the transmission of audio tracks that was created to produce an effect on the city’s everyday life. These outdoor speakers reproduce these tracks every day at the same time. Sapere Diffuso was presented in Cosenza and Roccabernarda (KR). The track chosen for the city of Cosenza was a text by Bernardino Telesio “BERNARDINI TELESII CONSENTINI AD JOHANNAM CASTRIOTAM CARMEN” – a poem that enhances the greatness of the philosopher from Cosenza as man, lover and scholar. In Roccabernarda (KR) the track was made up of the voices of its citizens narrating the beauties of their land. • Simultaneità | numerocromatico

Simultaneità Double solo show by Manuel Focareta e Dionigi Mattia Gagliardi January 14 - 16, 2021 Via degli Ausoni 1, 00185, Roma Press Release Questa mostra è parte del progetto GRAN FINALE a cura di Numero Cromatico Numero Cromatico presents Simultaneità , double solo show by Manuel Focareta and Dionigi Mattia Gagliardi - ninth event of GRAN FINALE. The exhibited artworks are paintings from the series Test Verbovisivi (2015) by Dionigi Mattia Gagliardi and a series of PVC printed texts from the poetic anthologies Poembook (2014) and Pinder (2017) by Manuel Focareta. The project focuses on the mutual practices and interests of the two artists as well as the potential of the relationship between image and text. The research paths of both artists, even if with different aims, analyse the concept of expressive abstinence and the production of artworks through the use of procedures that actively involve the public. In this exhibition the public finds itself in a place where words and shapes, marks and typography, coexist. The aim is that of creating images and reactions through stimuli that are different, yet simultaneous. The exhibition stands as the first attempt of the two artists to create a dialogue between images and texts, studying the effects that these produce on the viewers and researching potential future prospects. This double solo show adds another important piece to the range of research projects carried out by Numero Cromatico, especially when taking into account the most recent neuroscientific discoveries that enable us to overcome the ancient and traditional dichotomy between the poet and the visual artist.
